Evaluating the retail space in the program for sunlighting spreadsheet we use the area of glass to be 581 sq ft. the area of the retail space to be 2730 which gives an average DF of sidelighting to be 4.25. Using reflective glass we are given the VLT to be 40. The first chart looks at the month of may during the springtime. This value is above average compared to the reccomended DF of 2.5-4% for a clerical work space which would be needed in a retail environment, if we extend the glass to 11' tall we see a DF increase to about 6.7 this increase would allow much more light into the space enough for drafting, keeping in mind the overhangs of the area which extends 10' over the retail space 30' above we would consider using the 11' height of glass as a better choice for a daylighting system, keeping the space bright and lively.
In the second graph we see a change in DF due to the change in season we now look at the month of december on the 5, we see a footcandle of about 22 which leads us to believe that the 11' high glass may be better during this time.
